Sickle Cell Anemia is a complex inherited autosomal recessive Hemoglobin disease/disorder. It is not only generate the illness but also responsible for stigma in the society. Through the stigma the patients and their family members become more sufferers throughout their life. The mismanagement causes death before medication of the patients. So, there is a need of awareness about sickle cell anemia for various groups of the people like medical personal, researcher, social workers, psychologists, family members and patients. In order to keep above in the mind, the first chapter of this book is about the general introduction of sickle cell anemia for example its history, origin and distribution, definition, differences between its trait and diseases as well as symptoms and complications. Utterly this chapter covers the whole introduction of sickle cell anemia. The II chapter comprises the tools and technology which elaborate all the pathological test and psychological brain mapping techniques, used for gathering data from different stakeholders and target groups. It is important to know that what kind of physical features are responsible for the sickling disease, hence the III chapter is about the study area. Chapter IV highlights the prevention and control programmes of sickle cell anemia. This chapter can play an essential role to guide all kind of persons. From this chapter people can get knowledge of, which kind of programmes are running and by this they can also avail benefits of the programmes. Along with above chapter V depicts the role of the government/non-government for eradication of sickle cell anemia and chapter VI encompasses of the observation by result and discussion. This part is helpful to know the perception and stigma of respondents. The concluding part of the chapter VII is framed under the suggestion/policy recommendation and conclusion. The patients' level to policy level recommendations would be the vital for the need of the patients and their families as well as will create an approach to medical attention.

Dr. Swapan Kumar Kolay born in 1966 at Midnapur, West Bengal. He obtained M.Sc. with first class in Physical/ Biological Anthropology (1992) and Ph.D. (1999) from the University of Sagar, M.P. He has done Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development from Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. Dr. Kolay got both Doctoral & Post- Doctoral Research Fellowship from Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi. His worked with Cultural Research Institute, Kolkata; A. N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna; Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi and Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal. He has rich research experience in conducting Tribal development, Tribal health and Natural resource management based research on 25 different tribes in 18 states in India. He has attended and organized many workshops, training programme and seminars at National and International level. He is a life member of Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata; Indian Anthropological Society, Kolkata; Indian Anthropological Association, Delhi, Indian National Confederation and the Academy of Anthropologists, Kolkata; Institute of Social Research & Applied Anthropology, Kolkata; Purna Chandra Memorial Institute of Social Research & Development, Kolkata. Dr. Kolay published more than 70 research based articles in different National, International journals and 4 books to his credit. At present he is Associate Professor  & Head, School of Anthropology and Tribal Studies; Ex-Additional Registrar and Ex-Dean of Student Welfare, Bastar University, Chhattisgarh.
