The Bhatari Dictionary is an extensive compilation of approximately 6389 words capturing the essence of the Bhatari language an Eastern Indo-Aryan tongue spoken primarily in the undivided Bastar region of Chhattisgarh and the border districts of Odisha including Koraput and Nabarangpur. Predominantly used by the Bhatara tribal community, the language holds deep linguistic and cultural significance in the region. This dictionary is the culmination of dedicated efforts by the authors from September, 2018 to July, 2024. The process of compiling this dictionary was not without challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a two-year delay. Despite these delays, the project was completed with immense satisfaction. Notably, the authors undertook this endeavor without financial support, making it a sincere contribution to the people of Bastar and language enthusiasts. The dictionary encompasses everyday vocabulary, a tense chart, and specialized terminology relevant to local culture, traditions, and the environment. As a trilingual reference book, it offers definitions and translations of Bhatari words in both Hindi and English. This invaluable resource benefits language learners, writers, translators, administrators, and researchers, while also helping Bhatari students and job seekers enhance their Hindi and English proficiency. As the first trilingual dictionary for Bastar's tribal languages, this pioneering work plays a crucial role in language preservation, communication, and cultural understanding, ensuring the region's linguistic heritage remains safeguarded.
