It is said that Adi Sankaracharya initially intended to write a commentary on the Lalita Sahasranama, but his disciple repeatedly brought him the Vishnu Sahasranama three times in a row. As a result, he decided to comment on this text first. In the Mahabharata, Yudhishthira learns the Vishnu Sahasranama from his dying grandfather, Bhishma.
