The present study of the “History and Archaeology of Bengal: A Study of Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri” is an earnest effort to expose the historical significance of the archaeology in the history of present day Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri. In the present geographical atlas, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri are the two districts of West Bengal. Earlier the two regions were the major parts of Pragjyotish-Kamrup-Kamata-Koch Kingdom. This work is a good attempt, which metriculously explores many new aspects of the regional history particularly in the field of archaeology of Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri. Here archaeology means not the historical relics and fragments, inscriptions, sculptures and coins only but the old and heritage buildings, ponds, wells, heritage bridges, graveyards, mounds and many other tangible ruins also. It has a novelty because no such remarkable works had been done on the present study earlier. The study has explored many virgin and untouched areas of the subject under review and attempted to make a critical discussion of the present theme from the historical point of view. The present volume will be of great interest not only to the students and teachers of local history and allied subjects but to the general public as well.
